Cedric Hardwicke
Sir Cedric Webster Hardwicke (19 February 1893 – 6 August 1964) was an English stage and film actor whose career spanned nearly fifty years. His theatre work included notable performances in productions of the plays of Shakespeare and Shaw, and his film work included leading roles in a number of adapted literary classics.
==Life==
Hardwicke was born in Lye, Worcestershire to Dr Edwin Webster Hardwicke and his wife, Jessie (née Masterson). He attended Bridgnorth Grammar School in Shropshire, after which he intended to train as a doctor but failed to pass the necessary examinations.〔("Hardwicke, Sir Cedric Webster" ), Who Was Who, A & C Black, 1920–2008; online edition, Oxford University Press, December 2012; accessed 20 March 2013 〕 He turned to the theatre and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).〔Parker, pp. 714–15〕
